MRGEDA — Economic Development In New Mexico's Mid Rio Grande Valley
The purpose of the Middle Rio Grande Economic Development Association (MRGEDA) is to create, attract, retain, and expand sustainable economic-based businesses, and develop infrastructure to enhance economic development within our counties and our communities. Accordingly, we provide support for economic development within New Mexico in Catron County, Sierra County, Socorro County, Valencia County and their many municipalities.
Located in south central New Mexico, and easily accesible from the Sunport in Albuquerque or the El Paso International Airport to the south, the Middle Rio Grande Valley is home to many vibrant communities. With easy access to I-25, as well as both US Route 60 and US Route 380, it is a natural center of transportation not only north and south, and but also east and west. This region also benefits from the busy BNSF Railway inspection yard in Belen.
Home to New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, more generally called New Mexico Tech and known nationwide as one of the top technical universities in this country, the Middle Rio Grande Valley offers an eclectic combination of academia mixed with an agrarian life style. Steeped in history, the area's storied past merges almost seamlessly with high-tech and 'big science', including Spaceport America, White Sands Missile Range, the Very Large Array, and the Magdalena Ridge Observatory. It's not surprising that several succesful software companies have launched from here.
